Greatest opportunity through music:
The ability to travel the world and see the difference
cultures and places. Seeing people's reactions to the music they are
hearing is priceless.

The best
thing about the violin is:
That it is so versatile. The violin is definitely a
singing instrument, but can sound in so many different ways.

How I got
started in music:
My father is a musicologist and a violist. One day, when
I was 5 years old, he brought a tiny violin home and handed it to me.
"This is a violin, and you will play it." - he said. Fast forward 23
years, and here I am!

_____________

The violin is
the soprano voice in the string family. It is held under the chin, resting
on the shoulder. The violin has a lovely tone that can be soft and
expressive or exciting and brilliant.
The violin got its start in
the mid-1500s, largely because it could double a vocal line well and was
portable enough to dance with. Violin making flourished from 1650 to 1750 in
Italy, particularly in Cremona with Nicolo Amati and his pupils Giuseppi
Guarneri and Antonio Stradivari. Instruments by these makers are still the
most sought after. As the size of concert halls grew in the 19th century,
violins were modernized by creating more pressure on the strings, allowing
the instruments to produce more sound to fill those halls.
