Greatest opportunity through music:
I had the privilege to live with, study conducting with,
and work for the legendary Gunther Schuller for the last four years.
|
|
The
best thing about the saxophone is:
It is, to me, the most vocal of all instruments. It also allows me to
perform in all sorts of musical styles. Also, if you can play one
saxophone, learning to play the rest is pretty easy. I perform
frequently on all four of these saxophones, as well as on sopranino and
bass. |
|
How I got
started in music:
My family started me in piano lessons at age 4. Music
runs in my family, but neither of my parents are professional musicians.
But, the saxophone had always caught my eye, even by age 7 or 8.

Conically shaped, the
saxophone is the only woodwind instrument made of brass. Although it
is found only occasionally in the symphony orchestra, it is considered a
member of the woodwind family because it has a single reed like the
clarinet. The saxophone is most commonly found is wind ensembles,
concert bands, and jazz ensembles.
